How we may help

We can now help low-income taxpayers in our ten-parish service area (and from other parishes on appropriate referral) with these problems:

  • Earned Income Credit denials
  • Audits, collections, tax court litigation, and other disputes with the IRS where the amount in dispute is $50,000 or less.
  • State or local tax disputes if we are helping the taxpayer with an IRS tax problem.
  • Non-filers who have not yet been contacted by the IRS.

How to get help

All of our offices can handle your request for help.  However, decisions about representation are made by our downtown New Orleans office.   Click here to find the office nearest you.

When you come in, bring all papers about your problem, including all letters from or to the IRS, copies of your tax returns (if any) for the years in question, and any other papers that may help us understand your problem.

If you can't come in

If you are disabled or you can't travel to one of our program offices, call (504) 529-1000, ext. 225 for a telephone intake interview.

Emergencies

You can lose important rights by waiting too long.  If you have an emergency (such as a collection notice, filing or appeal deadline ), call us at (504) 529-1000, ext. 225 and explain.  We will see you as soon as possible.  If you cannot reach us by phone, come to the office with your papers to explain the emergency to us.
